Volunteer with us!
What do volunteers do?
Volunteering is a great way for anyone to support the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter, and even meet the pet of your dreams! We have lots of volunteer opportunities. And if you want to help out but aren't interested in handling animals you can help with errands and office work.
Shelter Dog Socialization
Volunteers provide shelter dogs with socialization, exercise and training. During their visit, they take the dogs out for a walk, encourage good manners and obedience, provide them with human companionship, and even some grooming (brushing, bathing, etc.). Notes are made on each dog's cage card so that potential adopters can learn about the dog's personality.
Special Event and Pet Adoption Day
Volunteers help handle the animals and speak with potential adopters. We try to find a good match for each family so that both the animal and the family will be happy. Volunteers may also help us as special events such as Pet Fest which happens each fall, fundraisers, spay/neuter efforts, transporting animals etc.
Junior Camp Counselor
If you're 15-18 looking for service hours this summer, consider becoming a Junior Volunteer Camp Counselor! Fill out this survey to be considered and our camp director will be in touch. For more information fill out the application HERE.
Due to Covid-19, the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter is temporarily unable to accept new volunteers. We will update when this changes.

If after completing your service, you wish to become a regular ongoing volunteer with dog handling privileges, ask a clerk for a volunteer application or fill out our online version above. You will then be contacted to schedule required volunteer orientation.
