The Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter is looking for Volunteers!
Volunteering is a great way for you to support the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter, and even meet the pet of your dreams! There are lots of ways to help, from walking dogs, cuddling cats, to office work or transporting pets.
If you are 11-15 years old, you must be accompanied by a parent/guardian while at the shelter. Your parent/guardian must also complete volunteer training.
At this time, we are recruiting for these volunteer positions: Big Dog Walkers, and Feline Friends.
'Big Dog' Walkers
-Our Big Dog walkers walk the dogs around the shelter campus, or play off leash in designated dog runs. Exercise keeps our dogs happy, and happy dogs get adopted! Volunteers can work on basic training, take candid photos of the dogs, work on leash manners, and most importantly, spend time with them!
Volunteers in this position must have the ability to handle large, happy-to-see-you dogs. Walking our dogs is pretty physical; they try to pull you down the hall and out the door and you must have the ability to keep them under control at all times. In addition to handling large energetic dogs, our dog walking volunteers must be willing to tolerate a loud environment, and help with other important tasks, such as laundry, poop scooping, and tidying up. These things are important to keep our shelter running smoothly.
We are looking to fill these volunteer dog walking shifts at both our East and West bank locations:
Monday-Friday
10am-12pm
12pm-2pm
2pm-4pm
Saturday
10am-12pm
12pm-3pm
Feline Friends -
Volunteers assist with cleaning kennels, making enrichment items, and socializing kittens and cats through touch and play. Toys, fleece blankets, cat scratchers can be distributed to cats. It is so important that our adoptable cats remain friendly to people while waiting on their furr-ever homes, and our volunteers play a critical role in keeping our cats happy! Volunteers in this position must be willing to help with other tasks, such as laundry, poop scooping, and tidying up. These things are important to keep our shelter running smoothly.
We are looking to fill these volunteer Cat Socializer shifts at both our East and West bank locations:
Monday-Friday
9am-11am
12pm-2pm
2pm-4pm
Saturday
9am-12pm
12pm-3pm
ADOPTION EVENTS
Animal Handlers- If Events are more your speed, we always have a need for animal handlers at our adoption events. Events are usually held on weekends during the day from 11am-3pm. Dog handlers are responsible for one dog during the event.
