Doggie Playgroups Now at the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter

Background

  • JPAS recognized the need to provide our shelter dogs exercise and socialization as part of their overall enrichment.

  • In June 2015, we were lucky enough to have Aimee Sadler, playgroup expert and dog behaviorist, and her team spend three days with JPAS, teaching us how to safely and effectively introduce dogs to one another and how to make playgroups an everyday part of shelter life

  • JPAS immediately began implementing playgroups and our dogs, our staff, and our volunteers couldn't be happier with the results.

  • Dogs Playing for Life™, founded by Aimee Sadler, is an acclaimed training program for shelter dogs featuring canine play groups. Introduced to over 55 shelters across the US and Canada, this program utilizes play groups as an assessment, enrichment, training and adoption enhancement tool that helps shelters save lives!

  • This is thanks to a scholorship from Animal Farm Foundation
    Benefits

  • Adopters get to see the adoptable dogs in action, get a better feel for their personalities and play-styles, and and even choose their new family member directly from playgroup!

  • Dogs are better socialized, obtaining more exercise, and appear less stressed and visibly “happier.”

  • Socialization for shelter dogs is essential for the dogs' physical and mental well-being and simply put, gets dogs adopted faster!
